Comfort Quilts
In keeping with its mission, the guild gives away many quilts each year. These quilts are made by members and given to one or more local social services or medical agencies.
We hope that this finds you well and healthy during our collective battle with Covid-19. We had a great time in June at Louise’s classroom with a Pick-up/Drop-off session and are very thankful for everyone’s generosity. It was great seeing all who stopped by, and we really enjoyed the comradery.
We have also been busy donating completed quilts. Between the quilts donated during meetings before Covid-19 interrupted them, and the Pick-Up/Drop-Off session in June, we have 66 (yes, 66!) quilts to distribute. They are going to Wounded Warriors, American Kids at Meeting Street Healthy Families America, Blackstone Valley Advocacy, the Mae Foundation, Kent Oncology, Veterans Hospital, Care NE VNA, and we are waiting to hear about donating to the Elizabeth Buffum Chase House. Many thanks to everyone who takes part in the Comfort Quilts program. If anyone has a group that could use some of our quilts, please let us know.
If you have any questions, please contact Linda Maslanka or Brenda Starble.
Members are encouraged to participate in scheduled guild Quilt-a-thons to make quilts, or to make quilt tops on their own for donation, or to volunteer to quilt tops made by other members.
Our members make quilts in various sizes.
Some common sizes for the comfort quilts are:
Isolette Covers 24” x 48” – made with soft newborn colors
Baby Quilts – 36” x 48”
Lap Quilts – 40” x 50”
Bed Quilts – 70” x 90”
Of course these are only suggestions for our members, and other sizes are often made.
