A Day at the Imrov with Billie and Kassie
Feb 16 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

“A Day at the Imrov with Billie and Kassie”

Let loose and go wild!  We will push you to quilt outside the box and creatively sew blocks together without a pattern. Several improv piecing techniques will be demonstrated such as deconstructing traditional blocks and learning to create new ones.  Even though you are going wild, you will also be in total control. This is a great way to use those scraps and bust your stash! Great for everyone from beginners to advanced quilters.

Fabric Requirements:

  • Scraps in all shapes, sizes, colors, and designs (no scrap too small)
  • 1 yard background fabric

Other supplies:

  • Sewing machine in good working order with a quarter inch foot
  • Rotary cutter and cutting mat
  • Basic sewing supplies – scissors, pins, thread, bobbins, seam ripper etc.
  • Spray starch
  • 6 x 12-inch ruler or larger
  • Gifts for teachers so you get a good grade (optional)

Membership Meeting – Beth Heftler
Feb 21 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Beth Heftler Trunk Show – “Perfection is Overrated” A lively presentation of Beth’s quiltmaking journey, from her first frighteningly awful attempt at self-taught quilting to eventually founding EvaPaige Quilt Designs with her own line of unique patterns. Included are thoughts on the design process as it unfolds in 20 minute increments in the midst of the chaos of running a home and raising three small children, how a quilt can be a thing of beauty even without matching seams and perfect points, and the many joys of bringing her designs to the masses and discovering that they often can become converts to the freeing idea that “perfection is overrated”.

What Makes a Quilter Tick?
A Humorous Look in the Mirror
Join me for a fun-filled, interactive, eye-opening look at quilters and all the little quirks, passions and obsessions we all share. We’ll hold a mirror up to ourselves and see what others see when they look at us. Bring your friends and family along and maybe it will help explain, to you and them, why they look at us the way they do.

STORM AT SEA – David Sirota
Apr 19 @ 9:15 am – 3:15 pm

STORM AT SEA
Using my “No More Tears”© Foundation Piecing Method
Are you curious about paper piecing? Do you and paper piecing already have a love/hate relationship? Do you love the accuracy you achieve, but hate the process of getting there? Well, this class will change that to a LOVE relationship. We’ll be using the versatile Storm at Sea pattern to learn my “No More Tears”© method of paper piecing. Although we won’t be finishing the entire project in class, you’ll have at least one full block, and the tools you’ll need to finish it at home, in half the time you’d expect from paper piecing. Don’t believe me?  You’ll just have to come and see for yourself!

Bluebird of Happiness – Karen Kay Buckley
May 16 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Bluebird of Happiness
I am so excited about this project.  Yes, there are a lot of pieces and yes, it’s going to take you a while to sew all of the pieces.  But, while sewing you will learn a lot.  You will learn how to make perfect points, perfect circles, perfect ovals, smooth curves, smooth stems, some hand embroidery and just for added fun…..a little reverse appliqué.
The inside appliqué area is 14”x 14”.  With the additional black border area the piece finishes 20” x 20”

May 16 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Meeting Agenda

  1. Program – Lecture:  Karen Kay Buckley

To Border or not to Border, that is the Question
(1 hour) – During this lecture I will discuss if a quilt needs a border, how to select a border for your quilt, how I design many of my borders and how to measure to ensure a flat quilt.  As I show you many of my quilts (via Power Point if flying) I will discuss my border choices and share some fun stories along the way.  My hope is to inspire you to think about how to enhance your quilt with the right border.  Designing your own borders is much easier than you might think.
